6th Commandment
TO ACHIEVE
ROI,
PROVIDE ADEQUATE TRAINING AND SUPPORT.
If you want to achieve a return on investment, you don’t need luck. You just need to train the hell out of your people. In order for people to feel comfortable with their new tools and processes, you need to do the following:
-
Get them to think hard about the tasks they perform each day.
-
Break down the large tasks into smaller tasks.
-
Demonstrate the time intensity of performing all of these daily tasks.
-
Show how and where automation can save time and get them organized.
-
Teach them how to use their new tools effectively and efficiently.
-
Quiz them on their new knowledge.
-
Let them go into the field and begin using the tools.
-
Regroup to determine new areas for automation improvement.
-
Retrain on new features, changes and improvements.
-
Repeat these steps quarterly.
Failure to provide adequate training – the blatant assumption that people will develop a comfort level on their own – and be able to apply the tools to the tasks at hand without any significant training investment on the part the company is the single most common reason for SFA project failure. Don’t let this happen to you.
